Thermofused Melamine Saves Up to 60% for Most Surfaces
Plastic laminates are indispensible for decorative surfaces. The two main types of plastic laminates—Low Pressure Laminate, or “thermofused melamine” (TFM), and High Pressure Laminate (HPL)—work together identically matching designs of hundreds of solid colors, woodgrains and abstracts with multiple finishes.

High Pressure Laminate (HPL) such as brands from Formica, Wilsonart is composed of layers of resin-saturated kraft paper with a clear melamine finish. Installation costs are usually higher than TFM however, HPL has better impact resistance.
Low Pressure Laminate (LPL), also called “TFM” or “thermofused melamine”, generally offered in panel form, is melamine impregnated decorative paper (identical to HPL designs) bonded directly to particleboard or MDF. Lower labor installation costs result in 60% savings over HPL.
LPL panels may be used in vertical and low impact or low wear applications such as Commercial (store fixtures, toilet partitions and office furniture, Institutional (hotel and restaurant furniture) and Residential (bathroom vanities, entertainment centers and closet shelving systems).
